A small island 1 mile off
Magheragallan Pier (see)
Gola Island (Oileán Ghabhla in Gaelic) is located between Owey Island (see)
to the south and Inishmeane to the north. The coast of Gola has many
amazing natural sites, such as a magnificent arch to the north (Scoilt
Uí Dhúgáin), numerous rocks and, above all, a large number of fairly
large caves that change constantly with the tides. Some of these caves
can even be visited by kayak (see),
particularly near the magnificent bay of Tráigh Mhachaire na nGall to
the west of the island. On the mainland is a small lake, Loch Mhachaire
na nGall. Around Gola are several small islands that are also worth
visiting, such as Umfin, Inishmeane and Inishsirrer. |
Inishsirrer. |
